Chamberlain, SD

Well we made a valiant effort to push for a position closer to home. But 537 miles west of Wisconsin Dell only got us to Chamberlain, SD on the banks of an extremely swollen Missouri river. The river has run off which includes over 600% of normal and is breaching the dams up stream. The picture below is one where it is tonight, normally is only a tenth of the width that it is right now and down inside a gorge.

Hopefully the dams hold until we get across the bridge in the morning......:-(

Stopped in Mitchell to get gas and spent a little time at the Corn Palace, interesting concept for drawing in visitors. Whole outside and murals inside are made entirely of corn of different hybrids and colors.

We are going to make a significant effort to make it home tomorrow night so hopefully the weather will cooperate. Weather was very good today we are, probably the best we have had the entire trip low 80s and sunny most of the day. Going to eat at a little joint next door to the Super 8 we are staying in. Would like some of my home cooked ribs instead but oh well!!!

Later
